Who we are
Abide is provided by M3CA LTD, the data controller for personal data processed through the app. Contact us about privacy at privacy@abide.app.
What we collect
- Without an account: your journal, saved verses, progress and settings stay on your device only.
- With an account: your email, display name and a copy of your walk data so it syncs across devices.
- Prayer requests may reveal religious beliefs or health details, which are special category data. We process them only with your explicit consent when you submit. Private requests are readable only by you and moderators and never appear on the Prayer Wall. Only requests you explicitly choose to share publicly are published after moderation.
- Help Circle requests and helper replies. These are sensitive, stored with your explicit consent, reviewed by moderators, and shown to pledged helpers without your identity.
- Groups and events you create or join.
- Guide questions are sent to our AI provider to produce an answer and are not stored by Abide.
- Bible text is fetched from the free getBible service when you read. It receives your device's internet address but nothing about you.
- Church search: your postcode is sent to postcodes.io and OpenStreetMap services to find nearby churches. We do not store it.
Why we use it (lawful basis)
To provide the service you ask for (contract), with your explicit consent for prayer requests (Article 9(2)(a) UK GDPR), and our legitimate interest in keeping Abide safe through moderation. We never sell your data and show no adverts.
Who we share it with
Our hosting and database provider, our AI provider for the Guide, and, only if you allow embedded videos, YouTube or Vimeo. Some providers may process data outside the UK under approved safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.
How long we keep it
Account data is kept until you delete your account. Declined prayer requests are removed. Data on your device stays until you clear it.
Your rights
You can download or delete your data yourself in My Walk, Settings. You can also ask us to access, correct, delete, restrict or move your data, and object to processing or withdraw consent at any time. Email us and we will respond within one month. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or 0303 123 1113.
Children
Abide is intended for people aged 13 and over. Under 13s should use it only with a parent or guardian.
